History One of the perpetual problems being faced was the shortage of funds for any number of potential projects from building a sixth form common room to getting the toilets into reasonable condition. There were always insufficient funds in the budget. Equally there were always promotions of one type or another by merchants offering “books for schools”, “computers for schools” “box tops for schools” etc. So there was clearly a desire for retailers to be associated with good causes - in this case helping schools. There was also a massive growth in “loyalty schemes” mainly in the form of loyalty cards. Much of the accrued benefits were often lost to the carriers of the cards through lack of interest – minimal shopping in the relevant stores etc. Internet usage was and is going through a phenomenal growth and the potential of the medium was just being realised. People are increasingly gaining confidence in the security provisions of the internet and the numbers of people shopping through the internet is increasing. The combination of all of these factors gave birth to the idea for Thinkschool! In researching the idea I came across numerous “affiliate” programmes with a similar basic concept except that the funds were all directed back to the hosting web site. I found a site in the United States which had a similar format on returning to it recently it is raising large sums of money for its school– which seemed to prove the concept.
